Before placing your order with the bridal shop, check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the salon has a complaint record. 

Its a good idea to put your down payment on a credit card.  This way you have more control over the deposit if something is to go wrong.

ALWAYS get a written receipt detailing the dress you ordered, the alterations, any special services, and the date your dress is to be delivered.
